MANILA, Philippines – Almost P5 billion worth of properties and agricultural products were destroyed during the wake of super typhoon "Juan," according to the latest assessment report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
The disaster-preparedness agency reported that P4.2 million of schools in regions 1, 2, 3 and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) were damaged as the typhoon battered the areas.NDRRMC said “Juan (international codename Megi) also destroyed P4.7 billion worth of livestock, fisheries, vegetables, and fruits crops such as mango, banana and papaya, and agricultural equipment in the regions.
Meanwhile, the national government, through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and the respective local government units were able to raise around P7.5 million of assistance to the affected regions. - By Dennis Carcamo (Philstar News Service, www.philstar.com)
